Madminds was originally an idea founded by Turkish-Royale meant to make a difference in the world (MAD = Make a difference… get it? lol). Turk started out by writing raps and found that most opportunities to perform for local artists were ran by money hungry groups making false promises and taking advantage of young, up and coming artists like himself. Through these experiences, he realized that local artists were in need of a platform to perform without being hustled and misled. The first Madminds Takeover was held in Stanhope, NJ at a local venue known as the Stanhope House. Here, Turk opened for amazing artists such as Mobb Deep, Joe Budden, and Immortal Technique amongst other legends. He collaborated with them and held the first Madminds event featured him and a couple of his highschool friends. No headliners, no pay to play, just some young aspiring artists, and their “fans” (aka the kids that they went to school with). They had a little over 100 people show up, and the rest was history. As of recently they have hosted over two dozen events. Its still free to perform, and they have moved onto bigger venues such as White Eagle Hall in Jersey City, the Claremont Distillery in Fairfield, NJ, and most recently Homestead in Morristown, NJ. With over 350 people attending these shows on average, it is one of the biggest artist showcases around, and after going to one event, you will see what sets this show apart from others. Its founded on the love of the craft, and built on the foundation of empowering artists of all calibers. The goal is to be the next big platform for artists, but not like anything we’ve seen before. Madminds wants to be a one stop shop for all things music related, from shows to podcasts, collaborative mixtapes, playlists, blogs, production services and more. All while empowering the artists, and making sure that they are rewarded for their excellence. Stay tuned, because the takeover continues!
